This is basically a botanical trek and for those who love nature. Spring is arguably the most beautiful time of the year. At the height of spring, which is end of March, the whole valley comes to life with flaming red, pink and white rhododendron blossom. In monsoon different verities of mushroom can be found along the trail including the Sangay (mustakhay) mushroom, which is exported to Japan. Day 01: Arrive by Druk air, the only national carrier. The flight offers you beautiful mountain and landscape. On arrival and after visa formalities you will be received by ITT members. Afternoon / evening time at leisure. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 02: Paro Sightseeing - visit the ruined fortress of Drugyel dzong which still attracts visitors due to the strategic location of the fort. The fort defended the Paro valley from the Tibetan invasion from the north in the early 17th century. On clear weather Mount Chomolhari 7320 meters can be seen towering over the dzong. Proceed through the beautiful valley to the watch tower or locally known as Ta-Dzong. It was housed into the National museum in the 1960s by the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The seven floors museum highlights various aspects of Bhutanese culture and history dating back to the 7th century. A short walk downhill to the Rinpung Dzong which serves as the administrative center and school for monks. Walk further down crossing the traditional bridge into Paro Town. Stroll around the market and return to Hotel.
Day 03: Drive to Thimphu is 2 hours and will be a pleasant one mainly due to the well maintained road through out Bhutan. Upon arrival check into Hotel. PM sightseeing - Visit the Memorial chorten built in the memory of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, 15 century Changangkha monastery, Motithang mini zoo to see the rare "Takin" national animal of Bhutan and drive further down with good view of the Thimphu valley. Visit the new Drupthob nunnery temple and free time in the market.
Day 04: Drive 45 minutes to the starting point of the trek. The first day of walking goes along the kacha road for 3 hours till you arrive at a sign board of Genekha school. All through the trail ascend through terraced fields and coniferous vegetation are abundant. Camp at Genekha at 2800 meters. Walking time 4/5 hours.
Day 05: Genekha to Gur. The communion with nature starts with alpine flora and fauna (birds are comman). The two hours of uphill walk and rest at a huge rock platform offering a picturesque view of the valley below. The camp is located in the heart of the woods ideal for afternoon stroll. Flowers are abundant in spring. Camp at 3350 meters. Walkng time 4/5 hours.
Day 06: Gur to Labatama. Walking across the ridge offers beautiful view of the rugged mountain vegetation. During spring the meadows are filled with flowers. From the pass one can see spectacular view of the Dagala range. Camp at 4300 meters near a lake filled with golden trout’s. Walking time 6/7 hours.
Day 07: Labatama halt. This is an ideal day for excursion to the three lakes namely Relitso, Hentso and Jamatso. Trout fishing can add delicacy to your meal in this wild country side (please bring own fishing equipments). If you are still fit to do trekking you can attempt climbing the Jomo peak, which is 5050 meters. The view from the top will be memorable for a lifetime.
Day 08: Labatama to Panka. 30 minutes uphill and a majestic view of the Himalays during the descent. Your guide will identify the peaks for you. Passing through meadows, shrubs and lakes you will camp at 4000 meters. Walking time 4/5 hours.
Day 09: Panka to Talikha. This day entails the crossing of several passes each one more impressive than the other. Look out for different varieties fo Blue poppy (national flower) during the month of June & July. An hours climb after lunch brings you to the end of Dagala range and you can enjoy the view of Thimphu valley below. An hour walk down hill brings you to your camp at 3050 meters. Walking time 6/7 hours.
Day 10: Talikha to Simtokha. Passing through alpine and mixed vegetation one reaches Talikha village. The trail descends passing through apple orchards till you reach the main motarable road to Thimphu where your transport awaits. Walking time 3/4 hours. Drive to Thimphu. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 11: Drive 3 hours to Wangduephodrang crossing the Dochula pass 3100 meters. On fine weather you will see the eastern Himalayan ranges including the highest mountain in Bhutan Mt.Gangar Punsum 7520 meters. The drive from the pass is all the way downhill dropping to the lower and warmer valleys of lobesa. Visit the Wangduephodrang Dzong from outside and the market area. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 12: AM drive 45 minutes to Punakha and visit the Punakha Dzong which served as an old capital of Bhutan. This remarkable fortress is built between two rivers and has survived many glacial floods and fire. Every year during the month of February a procession known as the Punakha Serda takes place to commemorate the victory over the Tibetans. Proceed to Thimphu. PM drive back to Paro. Overnight at Hotel.
