Though suited to a short vacation, the altirude goes to 4389m to give the natural feeling of being high. From Dhunche, the trail leads up through first and rhododendron forests which come alive with colors of nourishing spring before we reach Song Gompa. Higher, the trail climbs through more forest before emerging above treeline for great views of Manaslu and Ganesh Himals. We walk through alpine country to a ridge with a view of Sarswati Kunda several hundred meters below, then to bhhairav Kunda finally the Gosaikunda – where a series of sacred lakes are set on a treeless plateau. The Gosaikunda is the most sacred of the Hindu Lakes and is associated with Shiva, the Hindu Deity, who is said to have saved the world by drinking poison and created this lake to cool his burning throat.
