This trek is to the far eastern region of Nepal. Kanchenjunga, the world’s 3rd highest peak lies between Nepal and Sikkim and was opened in 1988. the peak is of religious significance and is one of the most beautiful structures.
The flight to Taplejung is via Biratnagar. After we leave Taplejung terraced farms with simple people make delightful encounters. The trail passes through waterfalls, forests and Limbu villages and shamanistic Rais who practice animism. It leads up to high country from where spectacular close up views of the Kanchenjunga can be seen. Across Tseram the peaks of Rathong and Kabru loom ahead and we climb onto the foot of the Yalung glacier offers incomparable scenery of the kanchenjunga.
The return is through the settlement of Ghaiya Bari by a trail that descends on stone steps via a waterfall to meander down the bed of Tamur Kosi to Chirwa. Traversing multiple hills through a variety of valleys and walking along wind swept ridges we arrive at Chainpur, a village once famous for exquisite metal products.
